The Skinny on Probiotics

I feel the need to start this blog post by saying that we are HUGE advocates of the philosophy to love the skin you’re in, no matter your shape or size. We believe that self-love and confidence should come from within and not from pop culture’s definition of beauty. That said, we are also advocates for health, strength, resilience and longevity and understand that over-all health and maintaining a healthy body-weight go hand in hand. Recent studies suggest that probiotics have been proven to help with weight loss. Probiotics will help to reduce chronic systemic inflammation which contributes to both type 2 diabetes and obesity. Also, the intestinal flora of healthy individuals, differs from those who are obese. I will say with full confidence though, that healthy weight loss comes from a balance of both diet and lifestyle. Staying active, watching your stress, getting plenty of rest and keeping your diet as clean as possible will get you to where you want to be eventually, slowly and over-time.

Certain strains of bacteria and a healthy gut flora will also work to support your weight loss plan by improving digestion, the assimilation of nutrients and of course, elimination. Some studies suggest a healthy gut flora will influence blood glucose, fat metabolism as well as improve insulin sensitivity. Improvements will also include: reduced gas and bloating, increased energy and an improved immune system.

Consumption of probiotic rich food should be about your overall health and not just about losing weight. So, as we have said to our customers from the get go it’s all about balance. A healthy diet, lifestyle, and gut flora is the key to a healthy weight which is right for you.
